Hi Artists,
One of the things I love about this project is how it has a mind of its own. Every year I set out to guide people on how to choose a project that’s right for them – and those guidelines are good, they’re valid, they're based on years of experience both doing and running the project – but the project we set out to do isn’t always the project we end up with. And that’s where the magic is! We make this container for what we think we’re going to do or want to do, we get started, and sometimes it becomes something else.
Two years ago my project went totally sideways. I had planned to create a tarot deck and fell in love with watercolors. The plan was good. The plan may still happen. But my creativity wasn’t looking for a plan, it was looking to play. Reader, I didn’t make a single tarot card.
A younger version of me would have probably considered that – or worse, myself – a failure. But the wiser me celebrates the wisdom and beauty in the project allowing me to follow my curiosities. To go beyond the parameters of what I was supposed to do and instead do what my heart wanted to do.
Our theme this week is not knowing.
What do you think you know about your project?
Have you made plans? How are they working so far?
What, if anything, do you feel like you’re “supposed to do”?
What’s the curiosity beyond the plan?
What does your heart want to do?
KEEP GOING!
XO,
Lindsay

Thank you for this- I am not loving my project choice, I always wanted to try it but now I’m not so sure I like it. Hearing that you didn’t finish one tarot card and that it was okay made me feel relieved.
I started this project wanting to get better at landscapes. I thought, this is the year!! I will finally learn to paint scenes!
I stagnated at the beginning of the project until I finally realised I’m feeling more like portraits… lo and behold! My creativity came roaring back! I’m now painting every day and motivated to improve my portrait painting skills. I still want to improve my landscapes but for now I’m gonna run with it!
