To piggyback on Lindsay’s message this week about doing something new…

I recently heard a line on an episode of one of my daughter’s cartoon shows that grabbed my attention. The main character, a little girl named Eureka, is an inventor in primitive times (think; a really smart, cute cave child with impressive engineering talents). She often finds herself and her friends in situations that require a bit of imagination and innovation, and will start “thinkering” (thinking + tinkering) on clever solutions. They’re lead by curiosity, play, and…hold your cringe…mistakes!

In this particular episode, she tells her friend that “Inventing is just re-inventing”, after a few failed problem-solving attempts.

I loved this! What a great message to share: It is natural for our creative process to take some trial and error. Evolution is part of the deal. And, our missteps could also just be called steps on the path to something really great. I mean, to the best of my knowledge, most (all?) noteworthy inventions/works of art in history were not created perfectly overnight. Like…How many dang iPhone models alone have you had since their introduction?! 

When I think about the concept of inventing = reinventing in context of this project, I personally feel a sense of relief.
