Let's get practical 🧐
+ tips for getting ready to start & a workshop on how to document and share your project
Hello, friends!
Over the past week, we generated a list of ideas for our projects and examined play, practice, and produce as motivations for participating this year. Let’s start to narrow it down, if you haven’t already.
If you were to pinpoint it, how would you describe your core motivation (or motivations) right now? Are the project ideas you’re most excited about aligned with your motivations? Is the direction you’re thinking about something you want to do, or something you feel like you should do?
And as promised, now that our ideas have had a little time, let’s get practical. Here are a few questions to reflect on.
Logistics – time, space, resources:
How much time can I make available for my project each day or week?
What are all of the elements of my project? What are the tools or materials I’ll need, what are the steps involved, how much time does it take?
What counts? What’s a “light” version and a “full” version of doing my project?
Am I traveling during the 100 days? Do I need portable version of my tools?
Documenting:
How do I want to document and share my process?
At what cadence and where will I share?
What tools do I need to document?
Side note – we just announced a workshop on how to document and share your project. You can find out more and sign up here.
Something I like to do is take my project idea on a trial run before the official start date. While you absolutely can change your mind about your project after you’ve begun (I have!), I’ve seen people falter because what they chose doesn’t pan out on Day 1. So what do I mean by trial run? You might tidy up a corner of your home or find a place that’s just for your creative practice. See if the time of day you think will be right for your project actually aligns with your real life schedule. Practice using your materials, especially if they’re new to you.
What I’m getting at: do you actually want to do it, is it feasible for your life right now, and will you (mostly) enjoy doing it every day for 100 days?
That’s my take, but there’s a lot of us here! If you’ve done the project before, I’d love to hear from you – I’m collecting a roundup of the best tips from the community on getting started with #The100DayProject. You can share yours here, and I’ll pick my favorites to include in an upcoming newsletter and on our Instagram account (with credit, of course!).
XO,
