Funny that Lindsay shared about gratitude yesterday, as that happens to be my coaching brand (and a long time core value). I don’t look at gratitude as a permanent state of being (and am vehemently opposed to the misunderstanding of it being a component of toxic positivity), but rather view it as part of the dance in my most fulfilling life. It’s a touchpoint I use to help redirect my focus, my energy, my perspective. And, if I’m totally honest, I use it more often in a hind-sight lens than many in-the-moment experiences.  I don’t know about you, but I’ve found it’s especially difficult to practice genuine gratitude when we are in the thick of difficulties. I do not believe we “should” be grateful for everything that happens in life. That just sounds like some covert manipulation tactic used by oppressors to keep us complacent, amirite?! And yet…and YET…I can pretty much articulate a point of gratitude for each and every personal hardship once it has evolved from an open wound into a scar. 

All of this to say, perhaps you don’t feel gratitude for what you are making each and every day. Perhaps right now, your project is lacking a clear “I’m glad I signed up” vibe. That’s OK. Part of the magic and mystery in committing to a practice such as this is that the most meaningful results may reveal themselves through a hind-sight lens, with a bit of time & space. They’re the great equalizers, much like gratitude.
